Denali National Park Trips

“You can have the same experience as everyone else who goes to Denali, or you can do something uniquely Alaskan. “ - Fly Out Travel

Nestled just a stone’s throw away from Denali National Park, Chelatna Lake Lodge offers a truly distinctive park-like encounter. Unlike the majority of last year’s 427,596 visitors who chose crowded bus tours along the single 92-mile road that winds through the park, our guests seek something more. If you’re genuinely interested in multi excursion packages that promise a diverse range of activities, solitude, and adventure, Chelatna is the ideal escape from the hustle and bustle.

Hiking in Denali

Embark on an exclusive adventure with our highly sought-after private day hike into Denali National Park. Led by experienced guides, this ascending trail takes you through alpine meadows with vibrant wildflowers, alongside meandering stream beds featuring cascading waterfalls. As you ascend, marvel at the towering rock faces marking the onset of the majestic Alaska Range and Mount Denali. Along the journey, revel in breathtaking panoramas of the lake and glacially formed valley that surrounds it. The best part about it, is that you will have it all to yourself.

Wildlife Viewing in the Park

Take a wildlife-rich adventure along the 8 miles of Chelatna Lake’s pristine shoreline, best explored by boat. Encounter grizzly bears, moose, beaver, river otters, coyotes, porcupines, eagles, osprey, swans, and perhaps even an elusive wolverine. Whether on a captivating flightseeing tour, heli-hiking expedition, or overnight float, odds are you will catch a glimpse of Alaska’s wildlife. Delve deeper into lodge offerings by exploring our dedicated wildlife viewing or birding pages.

Denali Park Road Tour

At the heart of the typical tourist experience lies the Denali Park Tour Road. Many visitors consider a bus tour with our friends at the National Park Service, providing insights into the terrain and park history through narrated or non-narrated options. For a more immersive experience, extend your stay at Chelatna Lake Lodge for 2-3 days, either before or after obtaining your park stamp. While we believe there’s no comparison to the Chelatna Lake Lodge experience, we are adept at assisting guests in selecting a trip that aligns with their preferences.

Denali National Park History

Established in 1917, Denali’s history is intricately tied to the tales of pioneers who molded the North American model of Conservation. Visionaries such as Charles Sheldon and Harry Karsens, influenced by their winter near the Toklat River cabin, were instrumental in designating Denali as the world’s inaugural national park devoted to wildlife preservation. Along the road system you’ll find chances to explore notable landmarks, including the sites of the original cabins.

Your Trip

Denali poses distinctive challenges and opportunities for day-trippers, particularly during peak months. With a single road access and expansive wilderness, meticulous planning is essential. It’s advisable to secure reservations and permits well in advance, particularly in the bustling summer period from May 20th-September 15th. During this time, privately owned vehicles can only travel the initial 15 miles of the park road. Due to the park's rules and regulations, the National Park Service has limited lodging and only six public campgrounds. For optimal trip planning don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly.
