| Our
location provides for a variety of fun adventures and unique opportunities
that only Chelatna Lake can provide.
We are the only
lodge on the eight mile long lake, and at the top of Lake Creek,
which essentially places the whole area at our private beck and
call. Being based right next to the southern border of Denali National
Park enables us to share the park exclusively with our guests. Our
professionally trained guides accompany you to ensure that you have
an experience that you will never forget.
HIKING:
One of our most popular activities is a private day hike into Denali
National Park. Our guides take you up into the park via an ascending
trail that first leads you through alpine meadows exploding with
wildflowers, then along meandering streambeds with cascading waterfalls,
and as you head uphill, you hike along the towering rock faces that
herald the beginning of the majestic Alaska Range. All along your
way, you encounter breathtaking panoramas of the lake and surrounding
glacially formed valley. The best part is you will have the place
to yourself, as if you were the first to ever explore this territory.
Other exciting hikes are available and take you along salmon-spawning
streams, through arctic tundra, and across boreal forest that allows
you to experience the heart of the Alaskan Bush for yourself.
WILDLIFE
VIEWING:
Chelatna Lake has fourteen and a half miles of shoreline to explore,
and the best way to do this is by boat. Wildlife abound as you take
a leisurely cruise in the comfort of your privately guided boat.
It is not uncommon to see either black bear or grizzly, moose, beaver,
river otters, coyotes, porcupines, arctic terns, eagles, osprey,
loons, swans and, if you are lucky you may catch a glimpse of an
elusive wolf or wolverine.
BEAR
VIEWING
Both black bear and grizzlies frequently travel on a path along
the opposite side of the grayling pond, and wander along a path
away from the lodge. A short but safe distance away from the lodge,
we have installed a bear-viewing platform so that you can spend
a little time observing these magnificent creatures as they forage
for food. Sometimes we even get to enjoy watching a set of cubs
scamper along with their mother.
BERRY PICKING
Everyone is raving about wild blueberries for their healthy antioxidant
benefits these days. Starting in mid-August, we are privileged to
have an abundance of these lovely blue treasures almost everywhere
you look. And are they tasty! Long hours of daylight in the summer
and cool nights in August produce sweet, juicy fruit, not too tangy
and so delicious, they taste like no other blueberry in the wild.
Why not spend an afternoon sitting on a hillside along the lake
in the sunshine filling a basket to bring home from your vacation?
